Founded in 1896 in Newark, New Jersey, the mission began as the “Industrial Home for Men” – a place which provided food, clothing, shelter, spiritual guidance, and instruction to those whose lives had been nearly destroyed by alcohol, lack of work, and other circumstances. It’s the oldest continuously-operating shelter in New Jersey. Today, nearly 120 years later, the mission has remained consistent with that undertaking, with this year being a record year for the organization.  Executive Director Hector Vega told Regency that Goodwill has served 73,629 meals to those in need so far this year – up from 34,350 last year. Furthermore, 12,881 shelter beds have been provided so far this year compared with the 10,178 which were provided in 2014.  The mission was pouring its resources into the increasing number of people it was serving. And when Monteleone toured its facilities, he was inspired by the work going on there but couldn't help but notice that little had been updated since the 1970s. So he phoned Regency’s New York warehouse and asked if there was some unused product which could be allocated for Goodwill.  That was in May. A few weeks later, several projects were underway, and New Jersey-based MaxLite jumped in on the work, donating a large number of LED fixtures. The sleeping areas, chapel, and lobby area have now all been retrofitted with much higher equality, much more energy efficient lighting, which will save Goodwill money in the long run. Ahead of Thanksgiving, it’s important to remember the work of Goodwill and other similar charities. The mission expects to serve 30,700 meals in two special holiday celebrations in the coming weeks. ![Regency helps to update Newark's Goodwill Rescue Mission](https://insights.regencysupply.com/hs-fs/hubfs/IMG_55592.jpg?width=320&name=IMG_55592.jpg "Regency helps to update Newark's Goodwill Rescue Mission") ![Regency helps to update Newark's Goodwill Rescue Mission](https://insights.regencysupply.com/hs-fs/hubfs/20150820_1244082.png?width=320&name=20150820_1244082.png "Regency helps to update Newark's Goodwill Rescue Mission")   “During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, thousands of people here in Newark will wake up hungry, homeless, and hurting,” Vega writes on [his foundation’s site](http://www.grmnewark.org). “Just a few years ago, many of them had jobs and were living productive lives. As the challenges of daily life became even more difficult, they lost everything. Recovering from the devastating impact of hard times is a very slow process for the hardest-hit people in our community. Continuing hardship pushes many over the line into drug or alcohol abuse, then homelessness and despair. Many are facing their first holiday season homeless.” At Regency, we feel privileged to contribute to work like Goodwill’s, as [we have always been committed](https://www.regencylighting.com/about-regency-lighting/social-responsibility/) to using a portion of our profits to aid individuals and organizations around the world who are making a difference. *Note: Goodwill Rescue Mission has no affiliation with Goodwill Industries.* *[![The ](https://no-cache.hubspot.com/cta/default/455757/cacc19e9-4583-4a4d-af06-dbc71df56c01.png)](https://cta-redirect.hubspot.com/cta/redirect/455757/cacc19e9-4583-4a4d-af06-dbc71df56c01)*   [![](https://www.regencylighting.com/rl-custom/images/search-posts-graphic.svg)](https://www.regencysupply.com/searching/) Keep up with our latest updates [Subscribe Now](https://info.regencysupply.com/en-us/lighting-blog-signup) [![Get your business account](https://no-cache.hubspot.com/cta/default/455757/da04c52a-287d-4340-ab12-055921e93293.png)](https://cta-redirect.hubspot.com/cta/redirect/455757/da04c52a-287d-4340-ab12-055921e93293) [![Get your free lighting review](https://no-cache.hubspot.com/cta/default/455757/ef6d50f0-0bdc-4896-8156-a7d2b0415c92.png)](https://cta-redirect.hubspot.com/cta/redirect/455757/ef6d50f0-0bdc-4896-8156-a7d2b0415c92) #### Related Posts [![](https://insights.regencysupply.com/hubfs/Blog_Images/7712th-apartment-building-lighting-retrofit.jpg) How to achieve payback in under 6 months on a multi-family apartment building lighting retrofit: A blueprint](https://insights.regencysupply.com/how-to-achieve-payback-in-under-6-months-on-a-multi-family-apartment-building-lighting-retrofit-a-blueprint) [![](https://insights.regencysupply.com/hubfs/Blog_Images/incandescent_lamp_part_number.jpg) How to read a light bulb part number: incandescent lamps](https://insights.regencysupply.com/how-to-read-incandescent-light-bulb-part-number) [![](https://insights.regencysupply.com/hubfs/Blog_Images/retail-lighting-design.jpg) 6 of the most common retail lighting design mistakes](https://insights.regencysupply.com/6-of-the-most-common-retail-lighting-design-mistakes) [![](https://insights.regencysupply.com/hubfs/Blog_Images/5-problems-regency-solves-1.jpg) 5 problems Regency solves for customers](https://insights.regencysupply.com/5-problems-regency-solves-for-customers) [![](https://insights.regencysupply.com/hubfs/Landing_Page_Images/CRI_CCT_Landing_Page_Image.jpeg) Guide to Correlated Color Temperature and Color Rendering Index e-book](https://insights.regencysupply.com/guide-to-correlated-color-temperature-and-color-rendering-index-e-book) [![](https://insights.regencysupply.com/hubfs/Blog_Images/LED_Buying_guide.jpg) Download our LED Buying Guide before you make your next lighting purchase](https://insights.regencysupply.com/download-our-led-buying-guide-before-you-make-your-next-lighting-purchase) View all posts   #### Related Topics [Charity](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/charity) [Inside Regency](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/inside-regency) [Lighting Tidbits](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/lighting-tidbits) #### Popular Topics [LED Lighting](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/led) [Product Comparison](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/product-comparison) [Lighting Controls](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/lighting-controls) [Lighting as a Service](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/lighting-as-a-service) [Energy Savings](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/energy-savings) [Title 24](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/title-24) [Technology](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/lighting-technology) [Indoor Air Quality](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/indoor-air-quality) [Cleaning & Disinfection](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/cleaning-disinfection) [FAQs](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/faqs) [Lighting Maintenance](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/lighting-maintenance) [Lighting 101](https://insights.regencysupply.com/topic/lighting-101) [![](https://www.regencysupply.com/rl-custom/images/search-posts-graphic.svg)](https://www.regencysupply.com/searching/) Keep up with our latest updates [Subscribe Now](https://info.regencysupply.com/en-us/lighting-blog-signup) HQ 9261 Jordan Avenue Chatsworth, CA 91311 **Phone:** [+1-800-284-2024](tel:+18002842024) **[Send us a message.](http://www.regencysupply.com/contact-us/contact-us/)** **[Find a location.](https://www.regencysupply.com/contact-us/#RS-locations)** Family owned and operated since 1983 [![](https://www.regencysupply.com/wp-content/uploads/rs-main-badge-w.svg)](https://insights.regencysupply.com/newname) What's the story with our rebrand?
